Lisa Ownby served on the WJCC School Board from 2016 to 2021, including terms as Vice Chair and Chair. She and her husband Matt Connolly are longtime residents of James City County.
Ownby earned her bachelor’s degree (George Mason University) and master’s degree (University of Maryland) in social work. For over two decades her career focused on children with developmental disabilities and their families at public and private agencies including Colonial Behavioral Health, Child Development Resources, the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, Catholic Charities and Presbyterian Home and Family Services. She was appointed by Gov. George Allen to serve on the State Rehabilitation Advisory Committee from 1994 to 1998. She also served as a recruiter for the College of William and Mary School of Education’s graduate program in special education.
During the nine years she stayed at home with her four children, she served as president of the ARC of Virginia (2000-2005) and as president and vice-president of five WJCC elementary, middle, and high school PTA/PTSAs and the WJCC PTA Council. She volunteered with middle and high school bands and with athletic boosters at her children’s schools. She is actively involved in her church and ran day care during Vacation Bible School for years.
She now serves as the Director of Operations for her small family-owned business, Landtech Resources, a civil engineering and land surveying firm.
